What our Clients Say

FAQ

Can I claim for working from home?
Yes.  The most common method is the home office expenses statutory method, being a rate per hour.  This rate is 52c per hour, which allows you to claim phone and office equipment depreciation separately, or 80c per hour to include all claims.
A log of home office time must be kept for 4 weeks every year to substantiate your claim.  We can provide you with a suitable spreadsheet to record this on request.
Can I claim for car travel?
Yes.  If you do travel for work purposes (not home to work, unless under special circumstances), then you can claim a deduction for the use of your car.  2 methods are available.  The set rate method is a rate per kilometre (currently 72c for the 2021/22 year).  No log book is required, but you do need to justify how you arrived at your claim.
The log book method requires you to record your work related travel for a minimum of 12 weeks in the year.  You can then claim the work related proportion of all running costs (Fuel, Registration, Insurance, Repairs, Interest and Depreciation).  The log book is good for 5 years, provided your circumstances do not change considerably (eg moving house, changing jobs).
